STELLAR Programme
STELLAR (Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading) is an English instructional programme which aims to strengthen the teaching of EL through explicit instruction and the use of age-appropriate children’s stories.
Lower Primary STELLAR Approaches
Shared Book Approach (SBA)
Using Big Book stories, students are exposed to language items, structures and skills explicitly, including concepts of print, phonics and grammar. Follow-up activities such as drama and art and craft are then conducted according to their students’ learning needs.
MLEA, Modified Language Experience Approach
Following that, a shared experience that is linked to the Big Book read provides the context and content for the students to think and talk about, using the target language structures and vocabulary. This brings about joy of learning. With the shared experience, students will have greater confidence in making small steps in writing.
STELLAR Approach to EL Teaching
Middle to Upper Primary Approaches
To develop 21st century competencies, there is more focus on multiliteracies, metacognitive strategies and exploratory talk from the middle to upper primary.
Multiliteracies involve teaching students to recognise perspectives. It's important to produce multimodal texts effectively. In addition, the school encourage reflective practices to build metacognitive skills. With Inquiry through Dialogue, students learn to make real-world connections and problem-solve in EL classrooms.

Our Reading Programme.
The Reading Hive for Lower Primary aims to nurture our students’ critical, adaptive and inventive thinking skills. Students interact with their reading materials at a deeper level through different activities of their choice.
E-platforms like Moo-O and SLS help to build foundation for comprehension and communication skills while Class Extensive Reading material strengthens comprehension and vocabulary. Little Red Dot is a newspaper subscription from Primary 4 to Primary 6.
It exposes students to current affairs and develop critical thinking skills.
Drama Workshops
Drama conventions such as hot-seating and freeze frames are included in our curriculum at P1 and P2 levels to inculcate the joy of learning. Following that, the P3 students will go on a theatrical learning experience. This culminates into a drama performance at P4 during English Festival to nurture creativity and critical thinking. Students will not only develop a deeper understanding of the characters in stories, they will also develop greater confidence in presenting before an audience,

Speaker’s Corner / Debating
Speaker’s Corner and Debating are our signature programmes from P3 onwards as we believe that confidence in verbal communication is key. Students are encouraged to develop empathy as they become critical thinkers making their case in a mini-class debates or presenting their thought clearly in front of peers.
